As we come to the end of Week 1, I’d like you to “think on” these verses about truth. I’m choosing the word “truth” because it is the first noun in the list provided for us in Philippians 4:8. Whatever is true …
Part of learning to “four-eight” certain thoughts requires us to train our mind to focus on truth and not lies. Some call this focused thinking meditation. It’s the same concept. I want you to focus in on, fixate on, or think on some verses so you can begin to train your mind for truth.
Let me ask you this question: Do you know how to worry? Most of us do. What do you do when you worry about something? You think about it over and over. You mull it over. You fixate on it. You consider it from every angle. It keeps you up at night, makes you unable to concentrate on anything else during the day. In fact, it utterly consumes your mind. This is what I want you to do with these verses on truth today. I want you to worry on the Word!
Write the verse down several times. Think about it as you drive, do the dishes, walk, cook, do the laundry, or shop. Say it out loud, sing it, or rap it. Whatever you’re doing, think on one or more of these verses while you’re doing it – meditate on these verses.
This is excellent training for what is ahead of us in this study.
Here are your verses:
- And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32
- Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. John 17:17
- The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Psalm 145:18
Think on these. Think about what they mean and how you can apply them to your life. Ask yourself the “who, what, when, where, why, and how” questions about these verses.
See you on Wednesday for Lesson 2 of Whatever!

Jacqueline: Thoughts about “truth” that come to mind are how the world often tells a different ‘truth’ than the Word of God. Its lies sound like truth. Even Satan’s words have hints and pieces of truth within them. The world is so LOUD that without stepping into His presence we cannot hardly tell the lies apart from the truth. The world denies “absolute truth”! Studying Philippians 4:8 reminds us to find His truth and gives us tools to focus on truth. So far, I am liking this study!
Donna, I love your insights on truth! THE Truth is in opposition with the World’s truth. Your statement, “The world is so LOUD that without stepping into His presence we can hardly tell the lies apart from the truth,” hits the nail on the head! We must remain in the presence of Jesus so we can discern between the two.
Thanks for commenting and sharing your insights!
