This past weekend was incredibly full! Full of fun, excitement, proud moments, joy, and full of moments of utter hilarity! I suppose it really began on Thursday. My oldest Son, Austen, had a JV football game in the evening. It was awesome to get to see him kick – PATs, Kickoffs, Punts (although they never had to punt because that scored on every possession!!). I was one proud mama watching my boy hit 5 out of 7 extra points!
Then like a whirlwind came Friday! Talk about a crazy day. Friday, Sept. 12 had been on our calendar for months – well ever since the end of May when my husband’s golf team (2014 Greenbrier High School Golf Team) won the state championship. Friday, Sept. 12 was the official state championship ring ceremony. Who knew this was such an important thing – well IT IS!!!
Alex had worked so hard these past few months … acquiring donations for the rings, handling all of the details for the ceremony, including the reception preceding the football game. It occurred to me on Thursday night that, although he had food for the reception, there was no decor. You know … napkins, plates, and cups in the school colors, of course, golf- themed centerpieces for the tables, balloons, tablecloths – NOTHING! So … I decided to spruce things up a bit – on the fly!
Well, thanks to my good friend and assistant, Christin, and her decorating expertise (oh, and Pinterest), we had some awesome decorations. Check em’ out! Check out the rings too!
I can’t even begin to tell you how very proud I am of my sweet husband and his team. They worked so hard and handled themselves with such integrity. Our whole family was at the presentation Friday night. My Dad and stepmom came from Spartanburg, Alex’s mom drove from Columbia, and my mom and stepdad who live in town joined us, as well. It was a wonderful night and despite the rain delay, the ring ceremony took place and the team received there much awaited affirmation. The rings are awesome. And guess what … you’ll never guess! I got something for being the coach’s wife. Alex gave me a state championship necklace like his state championship ring. Isn’t it great … I just love it! I was truly honored. What made it even sweeter, though, was the lovely inscription on the back …
To JCH I Love You! Your Alex
Most kind and loving man ever!
Saturday was no different in terms of excitement. Leanna, JD and I arose early (as in 5:30 AM – on a Saturday … say what!). We drove to Keysville so we could get ready for their very first horse show! Everyone joined us there around 8:30 when the festivities began. Again, I was so proud of my two horse riders. They both did a fantastic job. JD took a first and third and Leanna took two second place ribbons. Then, they tied in their division for Champion Reserve (that’s like 2nd place overall in your division). Most importantly, they had a blast and they looked adorable!
Saturday evening was full of drama, what with the South Carolina/Georgia Game – Go Gamecocks!!
On Sunday we went to church, came home and some of us got to take a nap – unfortunately is wasn’t me. Sunday evening we decided we had not had enough fun for the weekend so we had a family movie night and a late night Waffle House run. If you haven’t seen Dolphin Tale 2, you should! And … if you haven’t been to Waffle House after 9PM on a school night, you should try it. I’m thinking that may have just gotten me “Mom of the Year!” Check out my motley crew below!
So, it occurred to me tonight as I contemplated my day, that I had been tired and dragging all day long. I kept thinking to myself, “why am I so exhausted today?” Well, now I remember why! We never stopped the entire weekend. We had things to do, places to go, and people to see! But … through it all, we had a blast! We were together. We were celebrating our gifts and talents. We were laughing as a family. We were making memories! It was … priceless and worth every tired moment I endured on this dreary, rainy Monday!
I love my motley crew!!
Here’s what I challenge you to do this week with those you love … spend some fun, quality time with them. Laugh, sing, dance, go to Waffle House (or somewhere fun!). Celebrate your family this week!
Ok, one last pic – I love this one!! My little horse woman. Isn’t she just stinkin’ adorable!!!?? Don’t answer that – I know she is!
