Being a mom is tough! There are so many expectations, hats to wear and things to accomplish. Think about it, to be a mom it is imperative that you be able to multi-task, think on your feet, be a problem solver, a nurse, a cook, a maid, a creative thinker, a playmate, an accountant, a nurturer, a party planner, a disciplinarian … the list goes on and on. Just thinking about it makes me tired!
Moms come in all shapes and sizes too (I’m not talking about physical appearance here. Just go with me a minute and you’ll see what I mean!). There are stay-at-home moms and moms who work outside of the home. There are moms who start being moms young and some who start a little later in life. There are single moms, widowed moms, and married moms. You get the point! We’re all different, yet we all share one thing in common – we’re all MOMS!
I’ve been blessed by some amazing women who just happen to be moms as well. My two grandmothers, my great-grandmother, my aunts and many, many friends just to name a few. My Mama (as I call her) has had the most profound influence on me, however. She is one of the most amazing people I know. She is hard-working, loving, compassionate and fun to be around. She loves the Lord and has taught me so many things about life and my faith in God. One of the main character traits I admire about her the most, though, is her great work ethic. When she says she’s going to do something, you can count on her and you can be sure she is going to do it 110%!
Austen with his Nama (AKA My Mama!)
I can remember all the things she did when I was growing up. She was a busy lady! She worked outside of the home for most of my life, while still managing to keep our home neat and well organized. She provided wonderful meals for us and supported me in everything I ever did. She was active in our church – as a minister’s wife you can only imagine the expectations! She was in the choir, helped with the youth and the UMW (a women’s group). At one point I even remember her being the president of the PTA. She did so many things, yet she was always there for me. I really don’t know how in the world she managed to do everything she did now that I think about it. It must have been her dependence on the Lord and her love for others that empowered her to do everything with such excellence. What a wonderful legacy to leave her family!
I’m so glad God gave me you, Mama! And I’m so glad that I was able to watch you as I grew up and learn from such a godly woman. Cudos to you Mama! I love you!
